Proposed Sale of Cline Buttes – Thornburgh Resort

  • 3 Golf Courses
  • 6 Artificial Lakes
  • 1,000 + homes

The Department of State Lands is currently reviewing a request to sell 400 acres of public land at Cline Buttes to Central Land and Cattle Company LLC, the developers of the proposed Thornburgh Resort.

UPDATE: THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO JULY 1, 2022!

Public land versus the interests of a private company is not a new debate. Cline Buttes is situated on land administered by the Bureau of Land Management, the buttes are flanked on the east and west sides by two separate sections of the Eagle Crest Resort.

The proposed Thornburgh Resort destination was first announced in 2005. The economic fall of 2007 squashed development. In 2012 Cline Buttes OHV was officially opened. More so the designated land in jeopardy will effect long established hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. Not to mention the resort has a projected use of 6+million gallons per day so naturally farmers, ranchers and residents are concerned of aquifer depletion.

On March 10th 2022, a virtual public hearing was held with over 200+ in attendance, all of who opposed the sale. Over 4,000 business and groups have signed on to a community letter opposing the sale and over 1,800 written comments have been submitted. However more public comment is necessary!

The record is still open for public comment, so we urge you to write in if you haven’t yet. If you have already submitted comments, the DSL notes that you may submit additional comments, which will be added to the record.

REQUIRED: Make sure to include the transaction number for this potential sale: 63509-LS
